About Sylma the Celebrant

Hello, I am Sylma Step inside to discover more about me!

I am friendly, fun and creative and enjoy living in Hampshire. Originally from Northern Ireland, I followed my heart across the sea many years ago and married a sailor - but I still embrace the Irish in me!☘ Happily married since then with two sons, (now gorgeous young men), I enjoy living by the sea and need to be by it! It soothes my soul, raises my spirits, inspires me and makes me smile, all at the same time.

Having a naval influence in my life has given me an abundance of experiences and lots of opportunities to meet others from shores near and far. It has given me great joy to meet so many, to spend time with them and get to know them; some have become lifelong friends.

What else can I tell you about me? I love yoga and feel energised by it.

I have a vision of what I look like when I am in a balance (which I know does not reflect reality) but I give it my all, as I do with everything in my life; with practice, I will get closer to that vision!

I love to dance and will remain on the dance floor long after others have left.

Other loves include...

spicy food, smelly cheese, red wine, reading and travelling. Italy is my favourite stomping ground to explore, and I have made many happy memories travelling around it with my nearest and dearest.

I also dabble in up-cycling furniture - I lovingly restored a bedroom furniture set - there’s nothing better than reviving new life into something destined for the bin!

I care passionately about how your story is told, which is why I will create a ceremony that is personal and unique to you.

Why I became a celebrant. After a long career in education,

I knew that my passion for helping others was central to my journey ahead. This, alongside my love of meeting people and my desire to write, led me to retrain as a celebrant with the Academy of Modern Celebrancy, the perfect direction for me to take.

During my teaching years, I was privileged to work with many children and their families from all walks of life. Part of the job involved planning, organising and sifting through vast amounts of information to focus on the essential details. I also relished any opportunity to speak in front of audiences young and old and capture their imagination.

As a celebrant, I now use these skills and experiences to craft meaningful and joyful ceremonies that celebrate your story. This is my passion now, and I am thrilled to share it with you!
